Physical exercise (9-13 years)

At least one hour of moderate or vigorous daily physical exercise is recommended for this age group.

At least twice a week, this activity should include exercises to improve the condition of bones, muscular strength and flexibility.

Boys and girls of this age group should not spend more than two hours a day on sedentary screen-based activities (computer, television, internet, video games, etc.).

Although the recommendations for the time to be spent exercising are the same during childhood and adolescence, the type of exercise should be different according to age.

During childhood, the exercises for flexibility include stretching and gymnastics; those for muscular strength are characterised by climbing ropes and using elastic stretch bands; and those for aerobic exercise by running and jumping.
